  • Carlos was born one day after another pretty good centerfielder, Andruw Jones of the Atlanta Braves.
  • In 1999, Carlos became just the eighth rookie to score 100 runs and drive in 100. The last to do it was Fred Lynn in 1975. Others in this exclusive club are Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.
  • In 1999, Carlos became the fourth Royal to score 100 runs and drive in 100 runs in the same season. The others were Darrell Porter (1979),George Brett (1979, 1985) and Mike Sweeney (1999). He also joined Amos Otis and Bo Jackson as the only KC players to hit 20 HRs and steal 20 bases in the same season.
  • In June of 2001, Carlos combined with Raul Ibanez to become the first Royals duo to hit back-to-back home runs in consecutive games since Hal McRae and Willie Aikens did it in 1981.
  • When Carlos hit a grand slam against the Cleveland Indians in July of 2002, he made a lifelong friend of Royals fan John Richmond. The blast won $25,000 for the Kansas City resident through the Royals Radio Network and the Sonic Slam promotion.
  • In 2002, Carlos became the first Royal to lead the team in RBIs in back-to-back seasons since John Mayberry in 1975-76. He was also was the first Royal to lead the team in runs in back-to-back seasons since Willie Wilson in 1980-81.
  • In 2003, Carlos became the first Royal and the 23rd player in big league history to record a 20 home run/40 stolen base season.
  • In 2003, Royals fans started a petition at www.petitiononline.com to convince Kansas City management not to trade Carlos.
  • Carlos was glad when Roger Clemens signed with the Houston Astros. The Rocket gives him more problems than any other pitcher. Carlos says Alex Rodriguez is the best player in the game.
  • Carlos lists one of his hobbies as “sleeping.”
  • In 2002, Carlos bought a three-bedroom house in Manati. He spent the ensuing months working night and day on the home. His parents helped every step of the way. They couldn’t have been more surprised when Carlos then handed them keys marked “W” and “C,” and told them all along the house was meant for them.
  • Carlos loves animals. He has a pet money, a bonnet macaque named Mikaela. If he didn’t play professional baseball, Carlos says he would have become a veterinarian.
  • Carlos’s favorite meal is rice, beans and pork chops. No one prepares a better plateful than his wife.
  • Carlos regularly gives back to the fans and his community. He supports youth educational programs in Puerto Rico and serves as an instructor for the Royals Youth Instructional Clinics. He also participates in "Gloves for Kids," a program that provides young players with baseball gloves.
  • Carlos and Jessica went out on their first date on Valentine's Day in 1998. He proposed to her over the telephone.
