- As a kid, Chauncey’s favorite college hoops team was St. John’s. He began following the Red Storm when Denver native Chucky Sproling headed there to play for coach Lou Carneseca.
- Chauncey was named a McDonald’s All-American in 1995. He also won a gold medal in the U.S. Olympic Festival.
- During his four years at George Washington High School, Chauncey lost a total of eight games.
- In his 1996 game against Dream Team III, Chauncey nailed a pull-up jumper over Gary Payton the first time he touched the ball. Chauncey has never let the future Hall of Famer forget it.
- Chauncey got a laugh out of Bobby Knight’s reaction when Colorado beat Indiana in the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers coach was so mad that he didn’t shake the hand of any Buffalo, and then walked back to his hotel in the rain.
- In 55 games at Colorado, Chauncey averaged 18.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He canned 120 three-pointers and shot .857 (306-for-357) from the free throw line.
- Even if Chauncey never makes the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, his Colorado jersey did. Each year the hall displays the uniforms of the college game’s top players. Chauncey was honored in 1997 along with the likes of Tim Duncan, Ron Mercer and Antawn Jamison.
- Upon signing as a rookie with the Celtics, Chauncey bought cars for his dad, mom and sister. Ray got a Range Rover, Faye a Mercedes E-class 320 and Maria a Toyota Avalon.
- Chauncey played in the 1998 Schick Rookie Game, posting nine points, seven assists and five rebounds.
- The Pistons made it clear that Chauncey was their top choice among free agents in the summer of 2002. When coach Rick Carlisle visited him, he brought a Detroit jersey with #1 on it.
- When Chauncey torched Orlando for 40 points in Game 6 of their 2002 playoff series, he joined Dave Bing, Isiah Thomas and Kelly Tripucka as the only Pistons to reach this plateau in a post-season contest.
- Chauncey appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman after being named MVP of the 2004 NBA Finals. He joked with the host about his allegiance to the Pacers. When Dave said he was a “Pistons fan at heart,” Chauncey quickly responded that he was going to pass on this information to Indiana’s Ron Artest. Both got a nice chuckle out of the gag.
- In 2005, Chauncey starred in an adidas commercial called, “Improvisation.” The spot featured him playing on an animated wood court that comes to life and tries to prevent him from scoring.
- Among Chauncey’s tattoos is one across his right shoulder that reads, Smooth.
- Chauncey is a big fan or rap. His favorite artists are Tupac, Jay-Z and Notorious B.I.G.
- Chauncey married his longtime girlfriend, Piper Riley, in the summer of 2004. The couple has two daughters, Cydney Renee and Ciara Rai.
- Among Chauncey’s endorsement deals is one with Rock Financial that benefits the Detroit and Denver communities. As part of the agreement, Chauncey makes regular appearances at local schools, while Rock Financial treats underprivileged kids to Pistons games and donates money to Chauncey’s summer basketball camps.
