  • As a boy Colin won several punt, pass and kick contests.
  • In high school, Colin’s friends called him Bo (after Bo Jackson) because he dominated every sport he tried.
  • As a prep quarterback in 2005, Ryan was named MVP of the California Central Conference. He threw 25 touchdown passes that season.
  • In 2006, Colin led Pitman High School into the regional basketball playoffs. In the opening round, the Pride faced top-seeded Oak Ridge High, led by Ryan Anderson (now with NBA Hornets). Colin scored 34 and nearly led his team to an upset.
  • Colin was an all-state pitcher as a junior and senior for Pitman. He went 11–2 for the Pride in 2006.
  • On one famous play for Pitman, Colin scrambled away from pass rushers for 30 seconds before firing a touchdown pass. 
  • Colin was named 2007 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
  • As a junior at Nevada-Reno, Colin became just the second player in WAC history to have 2,000 passing and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
  • Colin was named First-Team All-WAC at quarterback in 2008. The last sophomore to earn this honor was Trent Dilfer of Fresno State in 1992.
  • Colin and Vai Taua rushed for a combined 8,285 yards as teammates in college. This broke the record of 8,193 yards, set by Eric Dickerson and Craig James at SMU in the 1980s.
  • Colin and Eric Crouch share the NCAA record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 59.
  • Colin’s 181 rushing yards against the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 playoffs set a new 49ers record for all positions. In that game he became just the third QB to run for two TDs and pass for two in the same playoff game. The other two were Jay Cutler and Otto Graham.
  • Colin is the only Division-1 quarterback in NCAA history to pass for 10,000 yards and run for 4,000.
  • Colin was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2009 but did not sign.
  • Colin was a Business Management major in college.
  • When Colin was in college, he worked for a store that sold Wolfpack merchandise. Most customers did not realize he was the team’s quarterback—even the ones buying his jersey #10!.
  • Colin has owned a tortoise named Sammy since he was 10-years-old. Sammy now weighs over 100 pounds.
  • Colin is a devout Christian. His arm and back tattoos include several verses from the Bible.
