  • During Cristiano’s first year in Lisbon, the team had to fly his mother in from Madeira to help him get over his intense homesickness.
  • When Cristiano was 15, doctors diagnosed a heart problem that threatened to end his career. It was repaired in a delicate operation with the use of a laser.

  • During his time in the Premier League, Cristiano scored at least one goal against each of Manchester United’s 19 opponents.
  • Cristiano was named Portugal’s captain for a friendly game against Brazil in 2007. This was done to honor a dying request by Portuguese Federation President Carlos Silva. Cristiano was named team captain by national coach Carlos Queiroz in 2008.
  • Manchester United scoring champ Ruud Van Nistelrooy was a constant critic of Cristiano’s, often reducing him to tears. Realizing both stars could not stay, ManU eventually decided to bid farewell to the Dutch star.
  • At age 22, Cristiano published his biography, Moments.
  • Cristiano and his family own two boutiques in Portugal. They are named CR7, after his number with Manchester United. In 2009, Giorgio Armani announced that Cristiano would follow David Beckham as 2010 spokesmodel for Emporio Armani jeans.
