- Though he caddied as a teenager,
Cliff has never had a burning desire to play golf. Part of his distaste
for the links came as a result of a run-in with a member at Flossmoor
Country Club. After being treated rudely by a loud-mouthed golfer in
the summer of 1988, Cliff swore off the sport.
- Cliff hit for the cycle
twice in 1992 for the Class-A Albany Polecats.
- Cliff was immortalized with
a bobblehead doll by the Marlins in 2001. He celebrated with a pair
of home runs.
- Prior to joining the Rays, Cliff had a .382 average at Tropicana Field—the second best all-time of any player.
- Cliff is a religious man
who says he tries to read the bible every night.
- Cliff's memorabilia collection
includes framed jerseys of Tony Gwynn, Craig Biggio and Gary Sheffield,
an oil painting of Mark McGwire, and pictures and baseballs autographed
by Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Wayne Gretzky, Raul Mondesi and Andres
Galarraga.
- If it was up to him, Cliff
says he would add the DH to the National League.
- Cliff's favorite actors
are Denzel Washington and Jada Pinkett. The two players he'd pay to
watch are Hank Aaron and Alex Rodriguez.
- If Cliff ever pursues a
college degree, he's interested in studying engineering.
- Cliff regularly
treated kids in Florida to dinner, autographed photos and tickets
to home games
through his "Cliffhangers" program.
