- Jean-Sebastien’s
nickname with Hartford and Calgary was Jigger or Jigs. When he got to
Anaheim, everyone started calling him Jiggy. Back home, he is called
”ti-cul” which means “little butt.”
- Jean-Sebastien’s
237-minute scoreless streak in December of 2002 is the third longest
in NHL history. Only Bill Durnan (309) and Turk Broda (245) held opponents
without a goal longer.
- Prior to a 2002
game against the Penguins, Jean-Sebastien took the old picture of himself
and Mario Lemieux to the Pittsburgh dressing room and asked Super Mario
to sign it.
- Jean-Sebastien’s
63 saves in Game 1 of the 2003 playoffs set a new record for saves by
a goalie in his first post-season contest.
- A few days after
the Ducks swept the Red Wings in the first round of the 2003 playoffs,
Jean-Sebastien was recognized in public for the first time. He was eating
breakfast at an Anaheim IHOP when some fans asked for his autograph.
- Jean-Sebastien
set a new post-season record, holding opponents scoreless for 168 minutes
of overtime hockey.
- Jean-Sebastien
refused to shave during the 2003 playoffs, and wound up with quite a
beard. He cropped it off moments after Anaheim’s Game 7 loss to
the Devils.
- Jean-Sebastien
was just the fifth player from a losing team to win the Conn Smythe
Trophy.
- Jean-Sebastien
and Patrick Roy are just two of Francois Allaire’s prize pupils.
Others include Patrick Lalime, Roberto Luongo, Garth Snow and Jocelyn
Thibault.
- Jean-Sebastien’s
brothers no longer play hockey. Stephane is a cop and Alain is an electrician.
