  • Curtis ended his career at UIC as the school's all-time leader with 178 runs scored.
  • In 2005, Curtis became the first major leaguer in 30 years to hit two triples and two homers in his first four games. The last player to do so was Milwaukee’s Pedro Garcia in 1974. 
  • Curtis won the New York-Penn League’s 2005 Stedler Award. He was also the Detroit Sports Broadcasters’ Association Tigers Rookie of the Year and named to the International League’s post-season All-Star squad.
  • Curtis wasn’t on the 2007 All-Star Ballot, yet he received 376,033 write-in votes—the most for a Major League player.
  • Only three other players besides Curtis—Jimmy Rollins (2007), Willie Mays (1957) and Fred Schulte (1911)—are members of the 20-20-20-20 club.

  • Curtis is launching the Grand Kids Foundation, aimed at improving education and the number of African American children in baseball in the Detroit area.

  • Curtis makes sure he has a piece of chewing gum in his mouth before the start of every game.
