During one six-week
period in July and August of 2001, Kevin entered eight races in 12
states.
In 2003, Kevin
became the first driver in the history to win the Brickyard 400 from
the pole position.
After Kevin won
the 2003 Brickyard 400, he blew a tire and lost a fender spinning
victory doughnuts.
Kevin finished
just 73 points shy of first place during the 2006 Nextel Cup campaign.
Kevin’s
points lead in the 2006 Busch Series was so great that he was the
mathematical champion by the end of October with four races to go.
He beat Carl Edwards by 824 points.
The day before
winning the 2007 Daytona 500, Kevin won the Orbitz 300. It was his
first victory at Daytona, followed 24 hours later by his second.
Kevin began 2007
with a new sponsor, Shell-Pennzoil. They replaced GM Goodwrench.
Kevin went the
entire 2007 and 2008 seasons with out a "Did Not
Finish."
In 2008, Kevin
took the lead in NASCAR’s drug policing by insisting
that his own KHI Nationwide and Craftsman Truck series drivers and
crew submit to drug testing.
In 2009, Kevin
launched Fan Central, a social networking web site. It has one of
NASCAR’s busiest chat boards.
Kevins pit
crew calls him Happy.
Kevin says he
is considering a career in architecture when his racing days are
over.
Kevins hobbies
include skeet shooting, racing radio-controlled cars and playing
golf and video games. He has a large arcade in his basement.
Kevin and DeLana
had to give Backup away. He did not get along with DeLanas
cats. They got two German shepherds instead.
