- Dany was nicknamed
the “Canyon
Meadows Kid” as a teenager in Calgary.
- Dany maintained a solid
B average at the University of Wisconsin. His favorite class was American
History. Since he was raised in Canada, it was all new to him.
- In 2000, Dany
became only the third freshman to lead the Wisconsin Badgers in goals.
The first
two were John Newberry in 1981 and “Miracle on Ice” star
Mark Johnson, in 1977.
- Dany got to meet Brett Hull,
one of his all-time heroes, when the NHL flew several top draft prospects
to New Jersey's Continental Arena for a publicity event in 2000.
- Dany took his dad to a Bruce
Springsteen concert in Atlanta in December of 2002. When they tried
to go backstage to say hello to The Boss, they were turned away by a
security guard...who refused to believe he was Dany Heatley!
- Dany’s show business
favorites are Julia Roberts (actress), "Major League" (movie)
and Dave Matthews Band (rock group).
- Dany—who signed his
first big endorsement deal in 2003, with Coca-Cola—owns a home
in Atlanta's fashionable Buckhead neighborhood.
- In a poll of NHL coaches
taken during the 2002-03 season, Dany was rated the player they would
most like to build a franchise around.
- Dany's brother, Mark, will
begin his college hockey career in the 2003-04 season.
- Dany led Team Canada to
the gold medal at the 2003 IIHF World Championship in Finland. In nine
games, he scored seven goals, assisted on three others, and was a plus-10.
