Dany Heatley

  • Dany was nicknamed the “Canyon Meadows Kid” as a teenager in Calgary.
  • Dany maintained a solid B average at the University of Wisconsin. His favorite class was American History. Since he was raised in Canada, it was all new to him.
  • In 2000, Dany became only the third freshman to lead the Wisconsin Badgers in goals. The first two were John Newberry in 1981 and “Miracle on Ice” star Mark Johnson, in 1977.
  • Dany got to meet Brett Hull, one of his all-time heroes, when the NHL flew several top draft prospects to New Jersey's Continental Arena for a publicity event in 2000.
  • Dany took his dad to a Bruce Springsteen concert in Atlanta in December of 2002. When they tried to go backstage to say hello to The Boss, they were turned away by a security guard...who refused to believe he was Dany Heatley!
  • Dany’s show business favorites are Julia Roberts (actress), "Major League" (movie) and Dave Matthews Band (rock group).
  • Dany—who signed his first big endorsement deal in 2003, with Coca-Cola—owns a home in Atlanta's fashionable Buckhead neighborhood.
  • In a poll of NHL coaches taken during the 2002-03 season, Dany was rated the player they would most like to build a franchise around.
  • Dany's brother, Mark, will begin his college hockey career in the 2003-04 season.
  • Dany led Team Canada to the gold medal at the 2003 IIHF World Championship in Finland. In nine games, he scored seven goals, assisted on three others, and was a plus-10.
