- Todd made just
27 outs during his senior season in high school.
- In 1998, Todd was
named Professional Athlete of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Hall
of Fame.
- Todd’s 25
home runs in 1998 ranked behind only Mike Piazza (35), David Justice
(28), and Darryl Strawberry (26) by an NL rookie since 1972.
- In 1999, Todd fell
one hit shy of a second cycle four times. The only player to pull off
this feat since 1900 was Brooklyn's Babe Herman (in 1931).
- In 2000, Todd became
only the fifth player—the first in 63 years and the first ever
in the NL—with at least 200 hits, 40 home runs, 100 RBI, 100 runs,
100 extra-base hits and 100 walks. The others were Babe Ruth (1921),
Lou Gehrig (1927 & 1930), Jimmie Foxx (1932) and Hank Greenberg
(1937).
- During the 2000
season, Todd did much of his damage with the bat of Jeff Manto, a 32-ounce,
34.5-inch Louisville Slugger.
- When Todd topped
100 extra-base hits in 2001, he became the first player in MLB history
to accomplish this feat in consecutive seasons. The only other players
to post two such years were Lou Gehrig and Chuck Klein.
- In 2003, Todd became
one of only six players in baseball history to record a .300 batting
average, 30 HR, 100 RBI and 100 runs in five consecutive years. The
others were Lou Gehrig (1929-37), Babe Ruth (1926-32), Jimmie Foxx (1932-36),
Frank Thomas (1993-97) and Vladimir Guerrero (1998-2002).
- Todd scored his 1,000th run during the 2006 season.
- In 2007, Todd became the first player in history to hit 35 doubles in 10 seasons in a row.
- Todd wears number
17 in honor of his favorite player, Mark Grace.
- Todd says Robb
Nen is the toughest pitcher for him to hit.
- Todd and his family
have a chocolate labrador named Abby.
- Todd’s GPA
in high school was 3.93.
- Todd originally
planned to major in veterinary medicine at Tennessee. But when he realized
how time-consuming his course load would be, he switched to business
management.
- Todd's wife, Christy,
is a real trooper. When they got married in 2000, he took her to a Rockies
spring training fantasy camp for their honeymoon. That fall, Todd got
back in her good graces when he rented a boat with a captain and cook,
and they sailed around the Caribbean.
- Todd is a big country
music fan. His favorite performer is Kenny Chesney.
