and Chase Utley became the first pair of middle infielders in the NL
to each hit more than 25 homers in the same season.

became the youngest Phillie since Greg Luzinski to collect his 1,000th

In 2007, Jimmy

Jimmy broke Willie
Wilson's record for at-bats in a season with 716 in 2007.
In 2007, Jimmy
set the Phillies record for home runs by a shortstop, with 30. He also
established marks for NL shortstops with 139 runs and 88 extra-base
hits.
Jimmy was the fifth
Phillie to win the NL MVP Award. The others were Chuck Klein (1932),
Jim Konstanty (1950), Mike Schmidt (1980, 1981, 1986) and Ryan Howard
(2006).
In 2007, Jimmy
became Philadelphia's second 30-30 man. Former teammate Bobby Abreu
was the first. Jimmy, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Larkin are the only 30-30
shortstops in history.
Jimmy set a Philly record in 2007 with nine leadoff homers.
In 2008, Jimmy became the first player to lead off two clinching games with homers in the same postseason.
Jimmy is one of
only three NL shortstops to start all 162 games in a season. Leo Cardenas
and Bill Russell are the other two.
Only four players—Jimmy,
Fred Schulte, Curtis Granderson and Willie Mays—have had a season
of 20 doubles, triples homers and steals. Of the four, Jimmy is the
only one to also top 200 hits.
When asked if he
would worry about his hitting streak over the winter of 2005-06, Jimmy
said he was more worried about getting his garage cleaned out.
After Jimmy won
the 2007 NL MVP, his parents hosted a huge barbecue in his honor. Among
the guests was Rickey Henderson, his boyhood idol.
One of Jimmy’s
best buddies in baseball in Albert Pujols, the man who beat him for
the 2001 Rookie of the Year award.
Jimmy’s cousin
is the Bay Area rapper Paipay.
Jimmy has one pair
of gloves for hitting and another for baserunning. One pair is always
flapping from his back pocket.
