Ive always led a pretty simple life, with few extravagances. The money in tennis never drove me. I made it look so easy on court all those years. No one realized how hard I had to work. No one realized how much I had to put into it. They underestimated my intensity. I may be a step slower than I was before reaching 30, but Im doing all the right things. I guess there are some guys who would take it easy in the latter part of their careers, but Im stepping it up. The years that I was # 1, I was probably a little bit too much consumed with the sport. Ive lost enough hair to all the stress I put on myself. Im married now and things couldnt be better. You need the game, you need the heart, you need the mind. I want to end my career on my terms, not on what people think I should do. “I feel like as I started losing, I started getting more fans.” "At times I felt I was pretty close to playing perfect tennis.” “I had nothing left to prove to myself. My heart wasn’t where it needed to be. I’m at peace with it.”
