Amare became friends with a boy named Michael Walker. He was the one
person who was always there for Amare, no questions asked. They are
roommates today.
- Amare’s brother,
Hazell, once led his high school team to a perfect 35-0 record.
- In high school,
Amare lost an All-Star dunking tournament to Carmelo Anthony.
- Amare estimates
that he played in only 150 to 200 basketball games in his life before
entering the NBA.
- Amare was ranked
the #1 prep player in America for 2001-02 by the Prep Recruiter’s
Handbook.
- In a SLAM
magazine article written his senior year, Amare predicted he would become
the first high school player to be named NBA Rookie of the Year.
- Amare’s 38
points against Minnesota established an NBA record for rookies right
out of high school.
Amare is an Internet freak. There’s nothing he enjoys more than
surfing the web.
- Amare may still
be growing. If he develops into a dominant center, the NBA may have
the second coming of Russell-Chamberlain, as he and Yao Ming should
be battling in the Western Conference for years to come.
- Amare‘s girlfriend
is named Alexi. He met her at a Nelly concert.
- While Amare’s
mom was in jail, he took care of her pit bull, JT. He has two of his
own, Ace and Deuce.
- Amare has his
dad’s favorite saying—STAT—tattooed on his arm. It
stands for "Standing Tall and Talented.”
- Amare’s favorite
CD is “Me Against the World” by Tupac Shakur.
- Amare has a bulldog
named Spudd.
