Joe Thornton

  • Joe ranks Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey and Dave Andreychuk as his all-time greatest Bruin teammates.
  • When Joe signed his first pro contract, he made one major purchase: he bought his mom a red Corvette. His vehicle of choice is a Lincoln Navigator.
  • Joe’s three favorite things to do when he’s not playing hockey are sleeping, eating, and watching TV.
  • One of the biggest adjustments for Joe during his first few years in the NHL was a new diet. The team said he could no longer have it his way with the junk food he loved.
  • Hockey players are not known for their dedication to academics, and many do not even have a high-school diploma. Joe received his by taking a correspondence course during his rookie season.
  • In 1999-2000, Joe led the team in goals, assists and penalty minutes. The last Bruin to do this was Jimmy Herberts in 1924-25—the first year of the franchise’s existence.
  • Joe’s brothers are absolutely enormous. Alex stands 6-5 and John is 6-6. Both tip the scales at over 260 pounds.
