Ben Wallace

  • Ben is the first undrafted player ever to be voted into the starting lineup of the NBA All-Star Game.
  • Ben wears wristbands with the letters NFZ, which stand for "No Fly Zone."
  • Add Ben to the list of power forwards who flourished as soon as the Wizards gave up on them. He joins the likes of Chris Webber and Rasheed Wallace.
  • Ben has been immortalized in bobblehead form four times in his career. The 2003 model featured “real” hair (thanks to sponsor Dittrich Furs) and became the hottest collectible in the league. The Pistons have also given out “Braided Ben” and “Talking Ben” bobbleheads.
  • Ben is married. His wife’s name is Chanda. Devout Baptists, they live in Richmond during the off-season and have two children, Ben Jr. and Bryce.
  • During his two seasons at Cuyahoga Community College, Ben made spending money working in one of Charles Oakley’s car washes.
  • Ben was named MVP of the 1995 CIAA Tournament.
  • Ben was the proudest member of Team USA in 2001. When the team placed sixth at the World Championship, it was the lowest point of his career.
  • Ben is the first Piston since Bob Lanier to finish in the NBA’s Top 10 in rebounding and shot-blocking.
  • When Ben first came into the league, Brian Grant and Charles Oakley gave him the most trouble under the boards. Today he says Kevin Garnett is the toughest guy to box out.
  • Ben became the first Piston since Dennis Rodman to pull down 1,000 rebounds in a season.
  • Whenever Ben grabs a rebound during a home game, a fan in “Rebound Row” receives a free t-shirt.
  • Ben has tiny hands. He can barely palm a basketball.
  • Ben is a big fan of professional wrestling. His all-time favorite wrestlers are "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Andre the Giant and King Kong Bundy. He also owns an exact replica of the WWE championship belt.
  • Ben's nickname is "Body." He got it when he was first traded to the Pistons. Teammates began called him "Big Body" and then shortened it to Body.
  • Ben majored in Criminal Justice at Virginia Union. He says he will consider law school when his playing career is over.
