appearance once prompted GM Billy Beane to ask him if he combed his
air with a rock.

his 200th strikeout in 2001, the only Oakland lefty to reach that plateau
was Vida Blue. Barrys 23 wins in 2002 were the most by an AL southpaw
since Frank Viola won 24 in 1988.
- In 2005, Barry
gave up fewer hits than innings pitched in 14 consecutive starts.
- Barry notched his
100th victory in August of 2006.
- Barry was named
to the AL All-Star team for the third time in 2006.
- Between 2001 and
2006, no pitchers in the majors made more starts than Barry.

by musical instruments. As a boy he played everything from the valve
trombone to the piano to the synthesizer.

- Given the choice,
Barry says he would prefer to play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix than
pitch a perfect game. He has a mini-recording studio in his bedroom,
and takes music lessons in the off-season.
- One of Barry's
biggest thrills was joining the Dave Matthews Band on-stage in Cincinnati
for a rendition of "Crash into Me." Heather Mitts of the U.S.
Soccer team sang vocals.
- Barry says "SpongeBob
SquarePants" is one of his favorite shows.
- As of 2007, only
five major leaguers had contracts with more guaranteed money than Barry’s—Alex
Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Manny Ramirez, Todd Helton and Alfonso Soriano.
