  • When Venus was nine, she hit with John McEnroe. As she left the court, she confided to her father, “I can beat that guy.” That same year, she visited Chris Evert at her home and asked if she could touch her Wimbledon trophies.
  • Venus first gained national attention when Sports Illustrated profiled her in 1991.
